The Sermon- Lazarus and the Rich Man

Hello, today the Pastor preached on Lazarus and the rich man; and this is our summary of what he said.

Basically the pastor said that we shouldn’t wait until it is too late to believe in Jesus. He said that, for the rich man, it was too late to change his mind and go to heaven.

He also talked about what the rich man said in hell. He asked Abraham to send Lazarus back to Earth to warn his brothers. Abraham said that Moses and the prophets were enough of a reason for his brothers to go to heaven. The pastor said that the rich man was saying that it was God’s fault that he went to hell. The rich man was saying, in essence, that God did not give enough of a reason for the rich man to repent; and so he thought that his brothers should at least be given enough information.

But; that is not true at all! Just look at Jesus; Jesus is our “information”! God sent His very own son to die for us; that is enough of a reason to believe that God loves us and that we do need and have a savior!

Jesus is our savior; He is the way out of Hell. And the Pastor showed us the Gospel very clearly; which I am very thankful for.

Pouring nard

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 12:3 which says,

Then Mary took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”

In this passage Jesus was at Lazarus’ house and they were reclining at the table. Some Pharisees went there too not only for Jesus but also for Lazarus. They decided that they should kill Lazarus too because people were believing in Jesus because of him. Then Mary took a jar with pure nard (which was an expensive perfume) in it. Then Mary poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped His feet with her hair then the house was willed with the fragrance of the perfume. Judas Iscariot thought that the perfume should have been sold and then the money should have been given to the poor. However it wasn’t because Judas cared about the poor, it was because Judas was the one who was supposed to take the money to the poor but he used the money for his own purposes instead. Jesus then told Judas to leave Mary alone and that they would have the poor forever but they wouldn’t have Jesus forever.

Jesus was right, they wouldn’t have Him forever. Jesus was going to die for the sins of the world! Then He was going to rise from the dead and ascend into heaven. But let’s start from the beginning, Jesus died for us on the cross! Jesus came down from heaven and atoned for the sins of the whole entire world.

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (NIV 1 John 2:2)

Jesus died for our sins on a cross so that we could live!

We should trust in Jesus as our savior! If we trust in Jesus and repent of our sins then we will be given eternal life. We should believe in Jesus as our savior so that we can be free from our sins, Jesus died for us on the cross and we should trust in Him as our savior. We should repent of our sins and believe in Jesus and we will be freed from our sins. Jesus took our sins and God’s wrath on Him and He died for our sins on the cross, we should trust in Jesus as our savior.

We should also be like Mary, we should give Jesus everything we have. That perfume was a lot of money and she could probably have sold it for her own benefit but she wanted to glorify Christ and so she poured it at His feet. We should do the same. We should glorify Jesus. We should give God glory, we should give Him all of our praise. We should also share the Gospel with unbelievers, if we give them the Gospel then they can accept Jesus as there savior and live.

Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to die for our sins. Thank You Jesus for atoning for our sins on the cross. Thank You Jesus for taking our sins and God’s wrath on You and then dying on a cross for us. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to take all of our sins on You and to die for us. Thank You Jesus for rising again on the third day and then ascending into heaven to mediate on our behalf and to prepare a place for us. Thank You Jesus for all You have done for us.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

If You Believe…

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 11:40-42 which says,

” 40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”

In this passage Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. When Mary had come to Jesus He was moved and asked to go to Lazarus’ tomb so they took Him there. Jesus told them to roll away the stone from Lazarus’ tomb but Martha told Jesus that Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days and there was an odor but Jesus said “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” After Jesus told that to Martha Jesus prayed, thanking His Father for listening to Him (Jesus). Jesus then said that He knew His Father always listened to Him but He had thanked His (Jesus’) Father for the benefit of those around Him. Then Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead by calling Him out of the tomb.

How could Jesus have raised Lazarus from the tomb? Jesus was and is the Son of God (and God Himself)! Jesus did miracles and He raised Lazarus from the dead. But Jesus did much more than that, He raised us from the dead! How were we dead and How did Jesus raise us from the dead? Well we weren’t dead physically but we were dead spiritually. We were sinners and all sinners are dead spiritually but Jesus came down from heaven and raised from the dead! How? He was our atoning sacrifice! Jesus took our sins on Him and He died for our sins on the cross and He gave us His life when He died for us.

Jesus died for us and we should trust in Him! We should believe in Jesus as our savior and live. If we trust in Jesus as our savior and if we repent of our sins then we will be given eternal life. We should trust in Jesus as our atoning sacrifice and we will live, we will be given new life. Jesus gives us His perfection is exchange for our sins. We should trust in Jesus as our atoning sacrifice, we should believe in Jesus as our savior.

We should trust in Jesus. We should also give glory to God, we should glorify Him. The end of man (and woman) is to glorify God. We should glorify Jesus as our savior. We should also be stone rollers, if God chooses to use us to show His works then we should not try to hide it. If God uses us as someone who allows the work to be done in someones life by talking to someone about the Gospel or doing anything that might give someone the saving truth of the Gospel of Jesus then we should not try to hide it. If we do then we are grieving the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).

Thank You Jesus for raising from our sins. Thank You Jesus for dying for us and giving us new life while You did. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to die for our sins and be our atoning sacrifice on the cross. Thank You Jesus for raising again on the third day and then ascending into heaven to prepare a place for us and to mediate on our behalf. Thank You Jesus for atoning for our sins on the cross!

Resurrection and life

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 11:25-26 which says,

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Mary and Martha’s brother Lazarus had died and had been in the tomb for four days. Jesus had gone to Judea where Lazarus’ tomb was and where Mary and Martha lived. When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she went to Him and said that if He had come earlier then her brother would still be alive. Jesus told her that her brother would rise again, she thought that He meant that Lazarus would rise again at the Resurrection but Jesus told her that He was resurrection and the life. Jesus said that whoever believed would live even though they would die. Jesus would give them Eternal life in heaven. Jesus was explaining to Martha that He was the resurrection and that He was life.

But how does Jesus give those who believe in Him life? Well all humans are sinners, even though Jesus was human He was also God, so He was and is perfect. But we were sinners with God’s wrath on us, we were going to die in our sins. However Jesus came down from heaven and took our sins on Him, then He died for our sins on the cross. Jesus came down from heaven because He loved us, Jesus took all of God’s wrath and our sins on Him and He died for our sins on a cross. If we trust in Him then we will have eternal life. Jesus died for our sins, that is how we can have eternal life. Jesus loved us enough to come down from heaven to atone for our sins.

We should trust in Jesus! If we trust in Jesus and repent of our sins then we will be saved from our sins. If we believe in Jesus then we will have eternal life. We should trust in Jesus as our savior so that we can become sons and daughters of God. Jesus gave us the right to become children of God on the cross,

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (NIV John 1:12)

We should trust in Jesus and we will be given the right to become children of God.

We should be like Martha and Mary, no we shouldn’t tell God what to do but we should run to Jesus. When Martha came back from talking with Jesus she told Mary that Jesus wanted her and Mary left as fast as she could. We should run to Jesus, if we have a problem then Jesus will help us. If we are struggling then we should run to Jesus. If we are being tempted then we should run to Jesus. We should run to Jesus and trust in Jesus.

Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins. Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven and taking God’s wrath and our sins on You and then dying for our sins. Thank You Jesus for giving us the right to become children of God by dying for us. Thank You Jesus for exchanging Your holiness and Your perfection for our sins and God’s wrath. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to be our atoning sacrifice. Thank You Jesus for raising us from our sins, thank You Jesus for all that You have done for us on the cross. Thank You Jesus  for dying for us on the cross!

Walking In the Light

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 11:9-10 which says,

Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light. 10 It is when a person walks at night that they stumble, for they have no light.”

Jesus is talking to His disciples and He is using this example for a spiritual teaching. Jesus told His disciples that they were going back to Judea (that was where Lazarus was) but His disciples said that the Jews there had tried to stone Jesus last time He was there. Jesus then told them that anyone who walked in the light would not stumble but those who walked in the darkness would stumble because there wasn’t any light. Jesus was saying that the Jews were in the dark, Jesus was going to show them the light by raising Lazarus from the dead. Jesus was going to show the Jews that He was the Messiah by raising Lazarus from the dead. Jesus was telling His disciples that the Jews were in the darkness and so they stumbled, the Jews didn’t know that Jesus was the Messiah because they were in the dark and not the light.

Jesus was the Messiah but what did He for us? We were in our sins and we were going to die with our sins and God’s wrath on us and we were going to die in the darkness of sins. But Jesus came down from heaven and He took our sins and God’s wrath on Him, He gave us His perfection and then He died for our sins on the cross. Jesus gave us light by dying for our sins on the cross. Jesus saved from our sins, we were in darkness but Jesus gave us light by dying for us on the cross!

We should trust in Jesus! If we trust in Jesus and repent of our sins then we will live, our sins will be atoned for. We should believe in Jesus and we will live, we will have eternal life! We were dead in our sins but Jesus died for us and when He died He raised us from our sins, Jesus saved us from our sins. We were just like Lazarus, we were dead but Jesus died for us and raised us from our sins. Then Jesus  was buried and our sins were buried with Him, Jesus then rose again on the third day! But our sins are gone and paid for, Jesus paid for them. Jesus then ascended into heaven to mediate on our behalf and to prepare a place for us. We should believe in Jesus.

If we believe in Jesus and repent of our sins then we will live. We should trust in Jesus and we should share the light with unbelievers. We should also share the light with believers, if we share the Gospel that Jesus died for us with unbelievers then they will know Jesus and they could trust in Jesus too! If we share the Gospel that Jesus died for us on the cross with believers then we can encourage them like Paul tells us to do.

11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (NIV 1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Thank You Jesus for dying for us on the cross. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to atone for our sins on the cross (1 John 2:2). Thank You Jesus for giving us light so that we could live and not stumble. Thank You Jesus for giving us Your perfection in exchange for our sins. Thank You Jesus for dying for us!
