Our Little Light

Hello, today my sister and I are doing our post together on Proverbs 13:9 which says:

“The light of the righteous shines brightly,
but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.”

Solomon is saying that wicked people don’t shine out any light, while those who are righteous do shine out. Imagine that there are 2 lighthouses, one is represented by the wicked person, and the other by the righteous person. There are many boats out, and it is a stormy sky. The wicked lighthouse puts out false light, causing the boats to crash. The righteous lighthouse puts out a real light, and saves the boats.

The righteous shine bright with the light that’s been given to them. Jesus is the light that believers have. Jesus is the spark of hope; He is the spark that gave us hope. He gave us hope because He took the punishment that we deserved. We are sinners, we deserved to die because of our sin. Yet Jesus took our sin, and our punishment. He died in our place.

Now we can take our little light and use it to give other people the light. We should not be afraid to show our light to others, and to share the Gospel with them. As the song goes “Hide it under a bushel-NO”; even though this is just a simple song that little children sing in Sunday school the message is still valuable: we should shine our light for all to see.

Jesus has given us a light, and He didn’t give it to us so that we could hide it! We should share our light, our hope, with everyone we can! I know that it’s hard, and sometimes we mess up and we are too embarrassed or ashamed to let our light shine; nobody is perfect. But like Paul we should never be ashamed to share the Gospel; so we should pray that God would give us the strength and courage to always share the Good news!
