Discipline

Hello, today my sister and I are doing our post together in Proverbs 5:22-23 which says:

“The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them;
the cords of their sins hold them fast.
23 For lack of discipline they will die,
led astray by their own great folly.”

Solomon is telling his sons to stay away from the wicked and the adulterous. Solomon told them that the wicked ensnare themselves in their folly, and they die because of their sin. Yesterday’s sermon said that there are no good people, and that there is only wicked people and really wicked people.

Only God is good. God sent His only son, who was also God, to take our punishment! He sent Jesus to die in our place, with all of our sin on Himself. God has made us righteous, and not wicked. Jesus gave His righteousness in place of our wickedness.

This also has a good teaching: we should discipline our children. If we don’t, like in verse 23, they could be led astray and spiritually die because of their sin. It is very important to discipline our children so that they will walk in God’s ways and trust in Jesus.

God disciplines His children. Psalm 94:12 says:

“Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord,
the one you teach from your law;”

God disciplines those He loves: Hebrews 12:6 says:

“because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”

If we are disciplined by God, then we are blessed.

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland and,
Grace and Truth, Charity Cleveland
