Blessings

Hello! Today my sister and I are doing a post together on Proverbs 3:31 which says:

“33 The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.”

Solomon is saying that those who are wicked would be cursed, and those who are righteous would be blessed. The only way to be blessed is to be righteous, but we are sinful by nature. Since we are not righteous we will not get the blessing, and instead we will get the curse. Deuteronomy 28:15-16 says:

“However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you: 16 You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country.”

The writer of Deuteronomy continues to give several curses that would be on us because we are wicked. Yet, we do not have those curses on us, because Jesus took them! Jesus gave His life to save us from sin; He took our punishment and sin for us and bore the wrath of God.

Because of Jesus we have the blessings that Deuteronomy 28:1-3 talks about:

“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:
3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.”

The writer of Deuteronomy also lists several other blessings, and Jesus has given them to us through His death and resurrection!

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland and,
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
