Hello! Today my sister and I are posting on Proverbs 1:7 which says:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
This is the first wise saying in the book of Proverbs. This is what Proverbs is based on. The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. In order to be wise, we must fear the Lord. If we don’t fear God, and gain wisdom, then we are fools.
Why should we fear God? Is it because He can take our life at any second? Is it because He can unleash His wrath on us? No. God does not have to pour His wrath on us, because He already has on someone else. He poured His wrath out on Jesus, His only son. He saved our lives.
This also has a practical application for us: if we fear the Lord then He will grant us knowledge. I use the word “fear” not in the way that you would be terrified of someone, but in the respectful reverent way of fearing someone. If we trust in Jesus and fear the Lord; He will give us more knowledge. This can mean real knowledge, but I think it also means that we will be able to see the Gospel more and more in the Bible because the Holy Spirit will reveal the Gospel to us.
