No Offering Accepted

Hello! I apologize for not posting the last few days: my sister and I were not feeling well. But now we’re doing better, and I’m ready to post!

Today’s post is from Malachi 1:10 which says:

10 “Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the Lord Almighty, “and I will accept no offering from your hands.”

The Israelites had been offering blemished sacrifices to the Lord; which was why He was not pleased with them. Because they were offering detestable sacrifices the Lord tells them that He would accept none of their offerings! And the truth is that God would not accept any sacrifices as a long-term atonement for sin; He would not accept any offerings because they were just animals. They weren’t a perfect spotless sacrifice that could fully take on all of God’s wrath and the sin of the people!

Clearly we aren’t offering sacrifices anymore, so what happened? God loved the whole world so much that sent a sacrifice that was spotless and capable of holding God’s wrath and the sins of the whole world! It wasn’t an animal; He was a human! But not just a human; this sacrifice was fully human, and fully God. This sacrifice was named Jesus! Jesus is the very son of God (and God Himself) and He really did fully atone for the sins of the world!

Jesus died for us on a cross, and He bore all of our sin and shame. He did it because He loves us; He loves us so much that He gave His life to save us from the eternal punishment that we would have born! He loves us so much that He atoned perfectly for our sins! Praise the Lord!

Practically this means that we no longer need to offer sacrifices (which is why we have stopped offering sacrifices), but spiritually it means that we are freed from our guilt and shame!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
