Hello, today my sister and I are doing our post together on Zechariah 11:12-13
“I told them, “If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.” So they paid me thirty pieces of silver. 13 And the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—the handsome price at which they valued me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the house of the Lord.”
This, again, is a prophecy; it was pointing forward to an event that would occur in the future. This passage is talking about a shepherd who was scorned by the flock, and whom they only valued at thirty pieces of silver. This passage is pointing forward to someone who is the Good Shepherd, was scorned by those he loved and cared for, and who was sold for the price of thirty pieces of silver.
This passage is pointing forward to Jesus ! Jesus would be the shepherd who was scorn. He actually was sold for 30 pieces of silver. He was betrayed by his friend, and sold for 30 pieces of silver to the Pharisees.
Jesus was sold to His death, but why did He die? He died for us. He was sent by God to die with all our sin on Him. God loved us so much that He sent His one and only son, whom He loved, to die in our place.
The most precious son of God, was sold at the price of a slave. That is a picture of how He became a servant. He became a servant, even though He was the son of God. He still gave His life for us, even though He was the King of kings.
