Tolerating Injustice

Today Joy and I have started reading Habakkuk together; if you remember I’ve gone through Habakkuk before. But that’s the beauty of the Bible: you see different things each time! Anyway check out Joy’s Blog for her thoughts!

God’s word for me today is in Habakkuk 1:3 which says:

Why do you make me look at injustice?
    Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?
Destruction and violence are before me;
    there is strife, and conflict abounds.”

Habakkuk is watching injustice and wrongdoing, violence and strife, right before his eyes. And you can understand why he would want to know why God is tolerating this, but the thing is that the Lord doesn’t tolerate sin and injustice. God cannot look at sin, He is a just God and He destroys sin.

Which is not exactly good news for us wretched sinners; it means that we will be destroyed. Or at least, it meant that we would be destroyed. But God is not only just, He is merciful and loving, and He loves every person! Which is why He sent His one and only son to die for every person on earth that ever lived or ever will live (or is currently living)! Jesus took all of the punishment and payment that we should have received.

I know you probably here that a lot from me, but it’s true. And if you really just think about the Love that God has given to you by sending His son, then you will appreciate it every time you hear it. So bear with me, I’m so used to using certain words over and over again, I’m sure it gets tiresome to you. But if you just think of it in your own words, it might not be so wearisome.

So Jesus died as a sacrifice for our sins, that’s amazing isn’t it?
