Today we heard yet another sermon that skipped over the Gospel, however I am going to give a summary of how you can find the Gospel in the passage that the pastor preached from.
The pastor preached on Luke 9:46-56 which talks about the disciples having a dispute among themselves about who is the greatest and Jesus saying that whichever one is like “this” little child, they are the greatest. Then they go to Samaria, and Jesus’ face was “steadfastly set” toward Jerusalem so when the Samaritans saw this they cast them out and would not help them. James and John (the sons of thunder) ask if Jesus wants them to call fire down from heaven, but Jesus rebukes them and tells them that “the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”
Unfortunately the version of the Bible that the pastor had left out the part that says “the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them” so he didn’t even read that part. Anyway, we can see the Gospel in this passage because Jesus says that He did not come to destroy men’s lives, but instead to save them. How did Jesus saves the lives of every person on earth? Through His death on the cross, and Resurrection on the third day, in other words the Gospel!
I sincerely hope that you have a church that preaches the Gospel!
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
