Like a Father

Before I start with what God has given me, I would like to say something concerning my last post. My dad showed me that the fulfillment of the passage that I used (“who can stand on the day that he comes”) is really pointing forward to when Jesus would come to the temple and purify it from those who were buying and selling things in it. Jesus came and cleansed the temple because it was really meant for prayer to God, not for a market. We can still find the Gospel from it, but the way I found it wasn’t quite what it was pointing forward to :).

Today God has given me Malachi 3:17 which says:

17 “On the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty, “they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him.”

God sparing those who fear Him is great and all, but what about us? Without realizing that we are sinners in need of a savior, we wouldn’t fear God. So we would be destroyed, utterly annihilated because of our sins. However, God’s only son sacrificed Himself so that we could be the sons and daughters of God, and so that we might be spared!

It’s true, Jesus Christ came down from heaven, took on our sins and died for us on a cross. Jesus gave us the right to be children of God, and now we are spared as though we had been the ones to serve God with all of our hearts. Even though Jesus did the work, He gave us the rights! That is not fair, it is love.

And now that we have the Holy Spirit in us, we are able to serve the Lord by spreading the good news of the Gospel to anyone we can! Then we can encourage believers, and plant a seed (or water it) in unbelievers!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
