God’s word for me today is in Zechariah 11:16 which says:
“16 For I am going to raise up a shepherd over the land who will not care for the lost, or seek the young, or heal the injured, or feed the healthy, but will eat the meat of the choice sheep, tearing off their hooves.”
What kind of shepherd is that? A shepherd that eats his sheep? A shepherd that doesn’t protect or care for any of them, even the lost and injured? This shepherd is doing his job; he isn’t caring for any of his sheep, and he actually eats the choice ones!
In Psalms 23 David describes us as sheep. However, we have a real shepherd who actually cares for us. So who is our shepherd? His name is Jesus, and He is the son of God (which means that He is God). We were like sheep that had gone astray into sin; we were lost and injured because of sin. But Jesus came down to earth, and died for us on the cross so that we might be saved. Jesus is our shepherd, and He found us and healed us from our injury.
Jesus is the best shepherd that could ever be; He gave His life for us. Thank the Lord that we have a shepherd who gave His life to save us from God’s wrath! Thank You Jesus for being our savior, and atoning for us on a cross!
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
