God’s word for me today is in Zechariah 10:4 which says:
“4 From Judah will come the cornerstone,
from him the tent-peg,
from him the battle bow,
from him every ruler.”
It’s pretty clear that this is a prophecy, just like everything else in this passage. So what is this prophecy pointing forward to? Who or what could be the “cornerstone”, “tent-peg” and “battle bow” out of Judah? Mathew 21:42 shows us:
“42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
“‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’[a]?”
Jesus is the “cornerstone”; Jesus is the stone the builders rejected. The “builders” are men; men rejected Jesus, but Jesus is the cornerstone.
This begs the question “how”; how is Jesus a “cornerstone”? Jesus is the cornerstone because of what He did for us. Jesus is God’s son (and, therefore, God Himself), but He came down from His throne on heaven to take our sins upon Himself and die for us. Now Jesus is our cornerstone; Jesus is the foundation of our safety.
Jesus’ love for us was so great that He descended down to earth in order to sacrifice Himself upon an instrument of death so that we might be saved from God’s everlasting punishment and wrath. Now He is our tent-peg; He is what shelters us from the storm of sin and death.
Jesus is our battle bow; He fought against sin, death, and Satan at the cross. And Jesus won; He crushed death, sin, and Satan when He died for us as a sacrifice.
And lastly, Jesus is our ruler; He rules over us as our kind and loving King and savior. Our king is the most loving and compassionate ruler that there ever was, because He gave His life to save us.
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
