Sheep and Jewels

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a very good year full of the Bible, laughter, and fun. Thank you for continuing to read my blog and I hope that it has helped you to see the Gospel in every passage that I have talked on. I hope that you will continue to see the Gospel in every passage you read, whether or not your reading my blog.

So, today’s passage is in Zechariah 9:16 which says:

16 The Lord their God will save his people on that day
as a shepherd saves his flock.
They will sparkle in his land
like jewels in a crown.”

The Lord “as a shepherd” saves his flock, He helps His “flock”. Then they will sparkle in His land like jewels in a crown! So who are the flock of the Lord? Originally the Jews were the Lord’s nation, they were His “flock”. But then something happened that allows anyone to be in the flock of God.

All people can be the flock of God; all sinners can be the people of God and live in His kingdom. All people can be like jewels in a crown, and the reason is because God’s son cleansed us of our impurity! That is what was causing the gap between us and God; sin was what kept us from being with God. But Jesus took that away from us at the cross; Jesus saved us from (to us) inevitable death and destruction.

Now we are the Lord’s people; we are God’s “sheep”, the jewels on His crown. Now He always knows us, we are the very jewels on His crown! There is no way that He can possibly “forget” us (not like He could ever forget us anyway) because we are His jewels, His sheep, His children.

Jesus is our savior, He rescued us from the worst possible situation ever! So all we can say is, “Thank You Jesus, thank You for being my savior.”

I hope you will have a great 2013 and always remember that the Gospel is the most important part of the Bible!

 Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
