Riding on a Donkey

God’s word for me today is in Zechariah 9:9 which says:

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey”

This is yet another picture of Jesus! Zechariah was pointing forward to a savior that would come, riding on a donkey, a colt. He would be the King, lowly and riding on a donkey. Doesn’t this sound familiar? In Mathew 21:6-7 Mathew tells us that Jesus rode on a donkey:

The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on.”

Jesus sat on the donkey, a “beast of burden”, as the King of everything. Jesus is our savior! Jesus rode upon a “beast of burden” and Jesus too was, in a way, a “beast of burden” because He bore our sins. Jesus came down from heaven, took our sins on Him, and died for us on the cross. Then He rose from the grave on the third day and ascended into heaven! Jesus did all of that for us because He loves us; He died for us to save us from our sins because He loves us.

God inspired the prophets and they wrote about Jesus way before He was even born. The Gospel is the main message of the Bible, otherwise the prophets wouldn’t have pointed forward to it! Jesus rode as a king on a donkey, and He was (and is) our savior, this passage in Zechariah really does point forward to this. In fact, in Mathew the Bible tells us that what Jesus did was to fulfill the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9. He did that because He is our savior! Thank You Jesus!

Jesus fulfills this prophecy, He is our savior!
