A Blessing, not a Curse

God’s word for me today is in Zechariah 8:13 which says:

13 Just as you, Judah and Israel, have been a curse[a] among the nations, so I will save you, and you will be a blessing.[b] Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong.””

Judah and Israel had been a curse. God had made them a curse among the nations. But God is telling them in this verse that He would save them, and then they would be a blessing. He tells them not to be afraid, and to let their hands be strong. Being a curse among the nations probably hadn’t been what Israel or Judah wanted as a nations, but when God told them that He would save them and make them a blessing they would have been relieved.

We were cursed, and we had God’s wrath on us. So we were going to die, but now we have been saved! God sent His one and only son to come down from heaven, take our sins on Him, and die for us on a cross. Jesus is our perfect sacrifice! We were cursed, but Jesus came and took the curse away from us! And now we are extremely blessed to have been saved from our sins and live.

In Zechariah 8:13 God tells the Israelites and those in Judah (Judah-ites?) to “let” their hands be strong. We were weak, but Jesus has died for us and now we are made strong through Him! We could not be “strong” through our own power, but Jesus has strengthened us!

Thank you Jesus!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
