The Woman in the Basket

God’s word for me today is in Zechariah 5: 6 and 9 which say:

I asked, “What is it?”

He replied, “It is a basket.” And he added, “This is the iniquity[a] of the people throughout the land.” “Then I looked up—and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.” (NIV Zechariah 5:6 and 9)

The angels raised the basket of iniquity between heaven and earth. Sin separates heaven and earth, it separates human and God. This basket represents the gap that was between us and God because of our sin. God is a holy, perfect God who cannot look on sin. But we were sinful, dirty humans who deserved to die. No matter how hard we work to bridge the gap between us and God (through good works, money, chanting “hail Mary” 100 times in a row etc.) we could not and cannot do it on our own. But God loves us, He made us and He loves us. So He offered a perfect sacrifice in our place! He sent His son as a sacrifice so that we could be the sons and daughters of God!

The only thing that can bridge the gap between us and God is the cross. Jesus died for us on a cross and rose again on the third day so that we could live! The iniquity that made a hole between human and God is now gone, Jesus is our mediator! Jesus makes it so that we can become the very children of God! The basket is destroyed, and it was destroyed at the cross when Jesus took our sins on Him and died for us. We are saved, thank you Jesus!

The gap that was between us and God is gone because Jesus died for us. Now we are the children of God and we love Him. Thank You Jesus! Praise the Lord that we are saved!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
