The importance of the Gospel

Today I’m taking a break from the usual and stressing the importance of the Gospel to everyone.

Paul writes about the importance of the Gospel in Romans 1:16:

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” (NIV) Romans 1:16

Paul states that he is not ashamed of the Gospel and that it is the power of God to bring salvation to everyone who believes! But you might ask “What is the Gospel? How is it the power of God to bring salvation to everyone?” Lets look at John 3:16:

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV) John 3:16

God loved us so much that He sent Jesus down to die for us on a cross! Now whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. That is a very comforting verse; John says clearly that you will not perish and that you will have eternal life! This is the power of God because everyone can be saved.

So why is this so important? Because this is truly a matter of life and death, if unbelievers don’t trust in Jesus then they are spiritually dead! But believers are spiritually alive! Some people say that the elect or the chosen ones are the ones that are going to believe in Jesus and live, so we shouldn’t bother preaching the Gospel to try and save everyone. They say that the elect will be saved whether or not we preach the Gospel to them. But you don’t know who the “elect” are! And the Bible also says that everyone will bow the knee to Jesus as Lord!

I don’t want to get off on the elect and what-not but what I’m trying to say is that we should preach the Gospel so that everyone will at least have the opportunity to be saved. Besides, even Christians need the Gospel. We can be comforted from our troubles and uplifted from our temptations because we know that Jesus loves us and that He died for us! So please pastors, remind us of our loving savior who died for us.

If we go back to Romans 1:16 Paul says that He is not ashamed of the Gospel. Then he says that the reason is that it is the power of God to bring salvation to many. Many people today are ashamed of the Gospel; maybe you are ashamed of the Gospel. But what those people should realize is that it is the very power of God to bring salvation to everyone! Christians should be apart of spreading the power of God! Too many pastors today are ashamed of the Gospel, but to be a pastor means to preach the Gospel! You aren’t even a church if you don’t preach the Gospel!

In fact, Jesus is the very definition of love through His death on the cross:

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (NIV) 1 John 3:16

If it wasn’t for Christ and His death on the cross then we wouldn’t even know what love is! So, the Gospel is very important. It is the power of God, it saves lives. Jesus and His death show us exactly what love is! Please, always teach or preach the Gospel, thank you!
