God’s word for me today is in Haggai 2:23 which says:
“23 “‘On that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.””
Can you imagine being the Lord’s “Chosen One”? Being His “Signet Ring”? Wouldn’t that be absolutely amazing; can you imagine what Shealtiel felt when He was told by the Lord through Haggai that he was the Lord’s chosen one? Well, we don’t have to imagine. Why not? Because, if you are a Christian, then you are the chosen one! “How?” You ask, “How can I be the Lord’s chosen one, I’m a terrible sinner!” Even if you are a terrible sinner (which you are, because we all are), you can be accepted into the Lord’s house!
How? Because God sent His only son, Jesus, to die for us on the cross! God loved us enough that He came down from heaven and died for us so that we could live. God loved us so much that He became our atoning sacrifice so that we would be saved from His wrath! Jesus was the Lord’s only chosen one, His signet ring if you will. But because He died for us and rose again, He gave us the rights to become not only God’s chosen one but also His sons and daughters!
So what if your really saying “Well of course God chose me to be His chosen one! I’m obviously deserving of it!”? Then, you need to realize that God does not choose anyone because of how good they are or what they have done, but because He loves them and they have accepted Him as their savior. And to accept Jesus as your savior, you need to acknowledge that you are a terrible sinner in need of being saved.
Praise the Lord that we have been saved through Jesus Christ’s death and Resurrection!
