God’s word for me today is in Haggai 2:4 which says:
“4 But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
“Be strong” is what the Lord is telling Zerubbabel and Jozadak. The Lord has just asked them how many of them were left that had seen His house in all of its glory and majesty. But how can Zerubbabel and Jozadak be strong? For that matter, how could anyone be strong? If we truly look at ourselves and see that we are terrible sinners, you can’t be strong.
So, how could anyone be strong? What is the answer to this question? Here is the answer: we can be strong because God sent a perfect sacrifice to die for us and cleanse us of our sins. If you realize you sins then it weighs you down and there is no way you can stand up and be strong, but God has provided a sacrifice to atone for us! Who is this sacrifice? God’s son (and God Himself) came down from heaven to die for sinners on the cross! Jesus Christ died for us so that we could live! Jesus cleaned us perfectly of our sins!
Now we can stand up, we couldn’t be strong on our own but God is in us and He is strong. God is our solid rock, He is our refuge and we should always trust in Him. When you realize how terrible your sin is then you are weighed down by it, but when you realize how much greater God’s love is then you can’t help but dance for joy! You can’t help but jump and leap and praise God! You can’t help but to sing to Him because He has freed you from your burden of sin, because He has taken you as His son or daughter.
Now we can be strong because God has armed us with the Armor of God! We lean on Him and He is our strength and our refuge. Praise the Lord for all that He has done!
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
