Today we took a 1 week break from visiting churches because it’s getting very tiresome to visit a church and be disappointed when we come home. So we found the Gospel today in Mathew 5:17-20 where Jesus is talking about the fulfillment of the Law. Jesus says that He had not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but He had come to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. The Law is still true, the Old Covenant is still true but it has been fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
How did Jesus fulfill it? He fulfilled it when He lived a perfect life, when He did no sin. But why did Jesus come down from heaven and live a perfect life? Why would He even bother to come down from His throne? He came down from heaven because He loved us, because He was going to save us from our sins. Jesus came down from heaven, took our sins on Him, and died for us on a cross! Jesus atoned for us perfectly! He fulfilled the Law, now we wear His righteousness and He is covering us, so we are cleansed and purified.
In the Old Testament Moses would sprinkle blood onto the Mercy Seat and that covered the Ark of the Covenant (which held Aaron’s staff, mana, and the broken law) so that when God looked through it He saw the atoning blood. Now Jesus is our Mercy Seat, God looks through His blood at us and we are cleansed!
Praise the Lord that we are saved through Jesus!
