Hi, God’s word for me today is in Amos 5:18 which says:
“18 Woe to you who long
for the day of the Lord!
Why do you long for the day of the Lord?
That day will be darkness, not light.”
For them the day of the Lord would be destruction and darkness. Why? Because of all their sins, they were sinners who had rejected their God. We were going to die with our sins on us too because we were sinners. The day of the Lord was not really a light time or a good time for sinners because of our sins. We needed a perfect sacrifice in order to live.
But now the day of the Lord is a happy time for us! Why? Because Jesus was our sacrifice and he died for us on the cross! Jesus is the son of God and He loves us so much that He died for us on the cross! Jesus died for us and now the day of the Lord is not a dark time for us, for Jesus it was a very dark time because He endured all the sin of the world and God’s wrath on Him! For us, so that we could live!
For those who have not accepted Jesus’ sacrifice the day of the Lord is still a dark time, but if you trust in Jesus then you will be saved from your sins! At first we had no answer to the question “why do you long for the day of the Lord?” But now we can say that, on the day of the Lord, we will go to heaven and be with Jesus because He died for us! If you are an unbeliever the day of the Lord is a dark time for you, but if you trust in Jesus then you will be saved and it will not be a dark time for you!
We should ask unbelievers the question “why do you long for the day of the Lord?” Because for them it is not a happy time. Then we can share the Gospel with them so that they can trust in Jesus and be saved from their sins. As Christians we have been saved from our sins and we should want to share the Good news that Jesus died for us, with unbelievers! Then they too can answer that they can long for the day of the Lord because that is when we will meet our Savior face to face!
Thank You Jesus for dying for us on the cross!
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
