Punished

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Amos 2:4-5 which says:

This is what the Lord says: “for three sins of Judah, even for four, I will not relent. Because they have rejected the law of the Lord and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed, I will send fire on Judah that will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem.”

The nation of Judah had rejected the Lord and His laws; they did not obey the commandments that the Lord had given to them. Because they didn’t obey the Lord, the people of Judah were going to be consumed by fire, the Lord was going to punish them. Everyone who did not obey the Lord was going to pay the price for their sins.

That includes us. We were going to die because we did not obey God, we needed a perfect sacrifice to atone for us but there was no perfect sacrifice on earth. Then a perfect sacrifice came to earth, in fact Jesus is the son of God (and God Himself), Jesus is perfect. Although we could never have any hope that Jesus would die for us, He actually loves us so much that He did die for us! Jesus came down from heaven and He took our sins on Him and died for us on the cross, now we can live!

All those who have not trusted in Jesus will die with their sins on them. If you haven’t trusted in Jesus, then why don’t you trust in Him now? Jesus died for your sins; He paid the price so that you would live! If you trust in Him then your sins will be atoned for and you will live! Why don’t you trust in Him?

Sometimes Christians become momentarily cold or led astray by other things. If we can, we should help them become centered on the Gospel again. If you are a Christian that has been led astray, then keep your eyes on the Gospel and if you do then you will stay on the right track. No one is perfect and no one can completely keep their eyes on the Gospel, but we should ask the Lord to help us stay focused on the Gospel.

Thank You Jesus for dying for us on the cross, thank You that we can be saved from our sins because of Your perfect sacrifice. Please help us to keep our focus on you. Praise God that we are saved!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
