Hi, God’s word for me today is in Romans 13:1 which says:

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

Paul is telling the Romans to obey the governing authorities because there is no authority except for that which God has established. Every authority, no matter if they seem bad or good, has been established by God. We should obey them unless they tell us to stop preaching the Gospel or to renounce our faith. Every authority is established by God, no matter what.

Jesus, who establishes all authorities, came down and He put Himself under the rule of the authorities even though He could have stopped them. He put Himself under Pilate’s rule and He was crucified, even though He didn’t have to. Why did He do that? So that we could live! Jesus came down from heaven and He took our sins on Him, then He died on the cross. He subjected Himself to Pilate’s rule and He was crucified even though He didn’t have to. He died for us even though He had complete control over what would happen to Him.

“Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” (NIV John 19:11)

God gave Pilate the authority and God could take it away from Pilate at any time, but He didn’t, Jesus died for us and now we live because of that!

If you have not trusted in Jesus then why don’t you come to Him and live? Jesus put Himself under Pilate’s authority and He died for us on the cross, why don’t you trust in Him and be saved from your sins? Jesus died for us! Why don’t you trust in His sacrifice and live?

As Christians we should obey the authority as long as they do not tell us to stop trusting in Jesus! Paul tells the Romans that they should obey the authorities and we should too.

We should also praise the Lord that we are saved from our sins! Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins on the cross and for rising again on the third day! Praise God that we have been saved from our sins because Jesus subjected Himself to Pilate’s authority and died for us on the cross!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
