Bless Those Who Persecute You

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Romans 12:14-16 which says:

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[a] Do not be conceited.”

Paul is telling the Romans to bless those who persecute you. Paul says to bless them and not to curse them. Then he goes on to exhort them. First we are going to focus on verse 14 and how we see the Gospel in it. Then we will look at the exhortation that Paul gives the Romans.

We see the Gospel in verse 14 in that Jesus blessed those who persecuted Him. Jesus was persecuted at the cross when He died. Why would the son of God not call legions of angels to save Him though? Because He loved us so much to come and take our sins on Him and die for us on the cross! Jesus died for us and now we can live in Him. Because Jesus did not curse those who persecuted Him we were blessed! We were saved from our sins because Jesus died for us!

Now we will look at the exhortation that Paul gives in verse 14 and the other verses. Paul tells the Romans to bless those who persecute them, we should bless those who persecute us. People will verbally persecute us and sometimes they will physically persecute us too, we should bless them and tell them about Jesus so that they can receive the blessing of eternal life! Also Paul says to rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn. We should do that too. We should also keep harmony with each other, we should not have an argumentative house, we should keep harmony and the way to do that is to focus on Jesus and the Gospel in everything we do! Of course we still sin but we should not continuously sin in an habitual manner.

Paul says to not be proud, to associate with those of a “low position” if they are not as in a lower position than us (for the Jews that would be the Gentiles or those who are not a pharisee) and that we should not be conceited. Being proud and not associating with people of a lower position usually go together, we should not be proud and we should associate with people of a lower position.

If you are an unbeliever then why don’t you trust in Jesus in Jesus and be blessed by Him? Jesus died for us, why don’t you trust in Him and be saved from your sins because Jesus did not curse those who persecuted Him? Jesus died for us so that we can be saved from our sins, why don’t you believe in Him and live? If you trust in Him then you will be blessed and you will become a child of God!

Praise the Lord that we are saved from our sins because Jesus died for us. Thank You Jesus for not cursing those who persecuted You so that we could live! Praise the Lord that we can trust in Jesus and live because He died on the cross for us. Thank You Jesus for dying for us and rising again on the third day. Jesus died for us and now if we trust in Him then we will be saved and we will live. We should trust in Him and be saved from all of our sins. Thank You Jesus!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
