We Have Gifts

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Romans 12:6-8 which says:

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”

Paul is telling the Romans that everyone has a different gift and that whatever your gift is, you should do it. If you have a gift of prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith, if it is serving then serve and so on. All of us work together in one body with Christ as the head. Paul mentions a lot of gifts in these 3 verses, and everyone of them describes Jesus. Jesus prophesied His death to His disciples and many other people. He served, He even called Himself a servant. He leads us in everything that we do and He gave us the most amazing gift ever when He gave us mercy on the cross.

Jesus came down from heaven and He died for us on the cross! Now we are saved from our sins, that is the most encouraging news that a sinner can hear. Someone has given us mercy and given us such an amazing gift, the gift of eternal life in heaven with Jesus our savior! Jesus has given us that wonderful gift when He died for us on the cross! Now we are encouraged, we live because Jesus died and rose from the grave on the third day! All the gifts that Paul points out in those 3 verses are the very description of Jesus because He does all those things for us.

Now we should follow Christ’s example. We all have a special gift and we should use it to grow the kingdom of God and to bring glory to God. There is clear exhortation in what Paul says, whatever gift we have we should use that gift for the good of the body of believers. We should give if our gift is giving. We should serve if our gift is serving. If your gift is leading, then do that diligently, if you gift is showing mercy, then show mercy cheerfully. If your gift is encouragement, then encourage the body of believers in the Gospel. Because Jesus did those things for us, if we ever start to get upset or angry that we have to share our gift, then we should think of what Jesus did for us at the cross! He died for us so that we could live!

If you are not saved by Jesus’ death, then why don’t you believe in Him and be saved. Jesus gave you the most amazing gift, why don’t you repent of your sins and accept Jesus as your savior, then you will be saved and you will be free from your sins and free to share your gift as a new Christian.

Praise the Lord that we have been given gifts that we can use to help others! Thank God that we have been given an amazing gift when Jesus died for us on the cross. We are saved from our sins, how amazing is that? Jesus died for us on the cross and rose from the grave on the third day, now we are alive in Christ. Jesus gave us the gift of eternal life with Him in heaven, now we should share our gifts with other believers.

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
