A Living Sacrifice

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Romans 12:1-2 which says,

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Paul is telling his brothers and sisters in Christ to offer their bodies as a living sacrifice. That was their worship to the Lord. We are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, just like how Jesus was our sacrifice on the cross! Jesus came down from heaven to die for us and He atoned perfectly for our sins. We were sinners who were not holy and pleasing to God, but Jesus came down and He died for us and now when God looks on us He sees His perfect son.

Jesus was our sacrifice and as Christians we love Him and we worship Him. My siblings, my mom and I are going through a book called “Morning By Morning” which is by Charles Spurgeon and we were reading today that the love we have for Christ and the love Christ has for us is stronger than a Gordian knot. Christians do love Christ and we worship Him because of that, Paul says that we should offer our bodies as living sacrifices for Christ and in that we worship Him. We can become “a living sacrifice” by asking for the Lord to consume all of us just like how the sacrifices in the old testament were offered as a whole sacrifice.

If you are an unbeliever then why don’t you trust in Jesus, why don’t you believe in Him and be saved from your sins by His sacrifice. Jesus died to save you from your sins, why don’t you trust in Him and accept His sacrifice, then your sins will be covered over with His blood. Jesus is your sacrifice, your savior, why don’t you believe in Him and become set free from all of your sins? Jesus died, why don’t you believe in Him and be cleansed from all of your sins because He died for you?

Paul also says that we should not be like the world and that we should renew our minds by the reading of the word. Some people take the saying “do not conform to the pattern of this world” very seriously. The Amish (which I am very familiar with) do everything differently, they dress different and they don’t have cars or electricity. But what Paul means by not conforming to the way of this world is that we should not do the sinful things of the world. We should keep ourselves pure and we should not swear. And of course we should renew our minds by reading the word and praying to the Lord! We should stay in close contact with God by reading the Bible and praying to Him. If we have hateful thoughts, read the Bible and pray, if we are angry; read the Bible and pray! That is the only way to renew our minds.

When we have renewed our minds we are able to think more clearly and we are able to test and approve what God’s will is. We will be able to find out what God’s will is once we have renewed our minds through reading the Bible and praying. We will find out what God’s good and perfect will is.

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
