Hi, God’s word for me today is in Romans 9:30-32 which says:
“30 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal. 32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.”
The Gentiles had faith and they obtained righteousness because they had faith. But the Jews thought that they had to work for their righteousness, so they tried to obey the law, but they couldn’t. At first you did have to work for your righteousness, but that was before Jesus came down from heaven and took our sins on Him and died for us on the cross. Jesus came and obeyed the law for us and now if we have faith in Jesus we are given righteousness. Jesus died for us so that we could live.
We are saved from God’s wrath because Jesus died for us. Many people try to live by works but we cannot completely obey the law, no matter what we cannot live by works and have righteousness because of it. If you are an unbelievers, if you are trying to be righteous by trying to obey the law, why don’t you trust in Jesus and be saved from your sins. If you just have faith in Jesus then He will give you His righteousness and take away your sins.
You cannot become righteous by working for it but as Christians we should want to do good works, not as a means of righteousness but because we want to. We should want to do things for people to help them and be kind to them. Just like the sermon on Sunday, we should have a difference from unbelievers and we should have a reason for that difference. We should want to do things for people.
Thank You Jesus for obeying the law perfectly and then dying for us with our sins on You. Thank You Jesus for dying for us so that we can have faith in You and live. Thank You Jesus for dying for us so that we don’t have to obey the law perfectly to have righteousness. Praise God that we have righteousness because Jesus died for us on the cross!
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
