Hi, God’s word for me today is in Romans 2:28-29 which says:
“28 A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical.29 No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God.
Today we are going to talk about how we can have circumcision of the heart by trusting in Jesus, Paul is saying that we should have circumcision of the heart instead of just the body. We have sin on our hearts when we are born and the Spirit circumcises us when we trust in Jesus.
Sinners have sin on their hearts and that was why Jesus died for our sins on the cross! Jesus came down from heaven and took our sins along with God’s wrath on Him, then He died for our sins on the cross. When you trust in Jesus the Spirit comes into your heart and He will circumcise it. Now the Spirit lives within you. The Jews focused on the circumcision of the physical body but really to be a real “Jew” you had to be circumcised in your spiritual body.
When you trust in Jesus as our savior (even if you are a Gentile) then you become a real Jew as Paul puts it. We are the children of God when we trust in Jesus. All people can trust in Jesus and become children of God now, not only the Jews. If you are an unbeliever then why don’t you trust in Jesus as your savior?
As Christians our hearts have been circumcised by the Spirit and the Spirit lives in us. We should give out the good news that Jesus died for our sins and that He cleanses our hearts. We should share the Gospel with unbelievers so that they can trust in Jesus. When the Spirit circumcises our hearts the Lord looks on us and He sees His son. Now we are children of God because Jesus died for us, why don’t you trust in Jesus?
Jesus died for our sins and now we have circumcised hearts. Now we are true Jews, we are children of God. Because Jesus took all of God’s wrath, we are free from God’s wrath. Now we are free from our sins, we do sin but we should not sin habitually because we are circumcised in the heart, we are God’s children.
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
