“It Is Finished”

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 19:30 which says:

“29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”

Jesus is on the cross in this passage and He had said that He was thirsty so that He could fulfill scripture. They gave Jesus some wine vinegar on a sponge to drink and after He had received His drink He said “It is finished.” Then Jesus bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Jesus actually gave up His Spirit to death, even though He could have called a multitude of angels to help Him! Why would Jesus do that? Jesus came down from heaven and He died on the cross for us. Jesus loved us so much that He died for us wretched sinners! Jesus took our sins on Him and He died for us on the cross. That was why Jesus didn’t call a multitude of angels to help Him and that was why Jesus gave up His life on the cross.

Jesus died for us on the cross and if you are an unbeliever than why don’t you trust in Jesus? If you repent of your sins and trust in the sacrifice that Jesus made then you will be given the gift of eternal life in heaven. Jesus died for our sins, if you are an unbeliever than why don’t you trust in Jesus and be saved from your sins because of His sacrifice? Why don’t you trust in Jesus as your atoning sacrifice?

As believers we should share the Gospel with unbelievers so that they can trust in Jesus. We should give unbelievers the Gospel so that they can receive eternal life because of Jesus’ sacrifice. We should give them the Gospel so that they can become children of God. We should share the Gospel with unbelievers.

Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins on the cross. Thank You Jesus for saying “It is finished” and giving up your spirit. Thank You Jesus for loving us so much that You died for us on the cross and atoning for our sins. Thank You Jesus for being our atoning sacrifice so that we could live. Thank You Jesus for dying for us.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
