Struck On the Cheek

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 18:22 which says,

22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.”

The high priest was questioning Jesus and when Jesus answered one of His questions one of the officials slapped him in the face. Then he (the official) asked Jesus, “is that the way you answer the high priest?” That official slapped the Lord on the cheek and asked him if that was the way he answered the high priest! That official didn’t know that he had just slapped the highest of priests on the cheek but it all fulfilled Micah 5:1,

[a]Marshal your troops now, city of troops,
for a siege is laid against us.
They will strike Israel’s ruler
on the cheek with a rod.”
(NIV Micah 5:1)

The ruler of the whole world was struck on the cheek by an official, Jesus completely fulfilled that prophecy.

But why did it all happen? Jesus came down from heaven and was struck on the cheek by an official so that He could take our sins and God’s wrath on Him at the cross! Jesus came down from heaven to die for us on a cross so that we could live! That was why Jesus did that, that was why He was struck on the cheek. Micah was pointing forward to Jesus even though he didn’t even know it.

If you are an unbeliever then why don’t you repent of your sins and trust in Jesus? Jesus died for the whole world including you, why don’t you believe in Jesus and be saved from your sins? If you trust in Jesus and repent of your sins then you will become a child of God, that was why Jesus died on the cross. Jesus loved us so much that He died for us, why don’t you trust in Him?

As Christians we should help unbelievers to hear the Gospel and trust in Jesus. We should give the Gospel to unbelievers so that they can live, so that they can have eternal life. We should share the Gospel with unbelievers so that they can become children of God. We should help unbeliever to trust in Jesus who died for us on the cross because He loved us.

Thank You Jesus for loving us so much that You died for our sins on the cross. Thank You Jesus for being our savior and dying for us so that we could live. Thank You Jesus for being struck on the cheek and for dying for us on the cross so that we could live. Thank You Jesus for being our sacrifice!

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
