The Bread

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 13:18 which says,

18 “I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: ‘He who shared my bread has turned[a] against me.’[b]”

In this passage Jesus is talking to His disciples and in the verse before this one He said that if they washed each others feet they would be blessed. Jesus had chosen the disciples but He knew that one of then would betray Him. Jesus said that one of the disciples would betray Him and they didn’t know who it was that would betray Jesus. Peter asked John if he could ask Jesus who the betrayer was and Jesus told him that it was whoever He (Jesus) gave bread to. Then Jesus picked up some bread and gave it to Judas Iscariot and He (Jesus) said, “whatever you are going to do, do it quickly.” Then Judas Iscariot left. Judas betrayed Jesus. Before all of that happens in verse 18 Jesus says that He was not referring to all of them and that He had said that to fulfill the passage of scripture that says, “he who shared my bread has turned against me.” Jesus had given Judas bread and Judas betrayed Jesus.

Jesus fulfilled the passage of scripture that says, “he who shared my bread has turned against me.” (NIV Psalm 41:9) Jesus also fulfilled all of the prophecies about the messiah when He died on the cross and rose from the dead! Jesus fulfilled all the passages of scripture that prophesied about the messiah because He was and is the messiah. Jesus took our sins on Him and He died for us. We were sinners that were going to die in our sins but Jesus took all of our sins on Him and He was crucified on the cross! Jesus died for our sins on a cross! It is amazing that Jesus who is the son of God (and is God) died for us on a criminals cross.

We should believe in Him as our savior, Jesus is our savior and we should believe in Him so that we can be free from our sins. We should trust in Jesus so that we can have eternal life, so that we can be free from our sins. If we repent of our sins and trust in Jesus then we will be free from our sins, we should trust in Jesus.

We should trust in Jesus and we should also share the Gospel with unbelievers. We should give the Gospel to unbelievers so that they can be free from their sins. We should give unbelievers the Gospel so that they can have eternal life, the eternal life that Jesus gave us when He died for us. We should share the Gospel with unbelievers so that they can trust in Jesus and be saved from their sins. Jesus died for us and we should share that good news with unbelievers.

Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins on the cross. Thank You Jesus for taking our sins on You and then dying for us on a criminals cross. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to be our atoning sacrifice and to give us Your perfection in exchange for our sins. Thank You Jesus for rising again on the third day and then ascending into heaven to mediate on our behalf and to prepare a place for us. Thank You Jesus for giving up Your life so that we could live, thank You Jesus for dying for us with our sins on You so that we wouldn’t have to.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
