The Good Shepherd

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 10:14-16 which says,

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father —and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.”

In this passage Jesus is talking to the Pharisees and He is telling them that He is a good shepherd and that He cares for His sheep. Jesus was telling them that all of the people who believed in Him were like His sheep. Jesus said that He was the good shepherd and that all of His sheep knew His voice. Jesus said that He laid down His life for the sheep. Jesus also said that He had other sheep that weren’t in the pen and that they too would listen to His voice and that their would be one flock and one shepherd. Jesus was the shepherd and His sheep knew His voice, they wouldn’t listen to someone who wasn’t their shepherd and that they would only listen to Jesus.

But what did Jesus mean when He said that He laid down His life for the sheep? We were sinners that were going to die with our sins and God’s wrath on us.  But Jesus lay down His life for us, the sheep! No we are not physical sheep but, if you don’t believe in Jesus then you are one of the sheep that Jesus was talking about when He said that there were sheep that were not in the pen but that still listened to His voice. Jesus took all of our sins and God’s wrath on Him and then He died for us, even before we believed in Him.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (NIV Romans 5:8)

Jesus loved us enough that He died for us, while we were yet sinners.

We should trust in Jesus! If we trust in Jesus and repent of our sins then we will become spotless and pure. We were black sheep, but Jesus died for us and made us as pure as snow! Jesus made us a part of His flock by dying for us on the cross. Jesus lay down His life for us. We should trust in Jesus and be saved from our sins, we should believe in Jesus and repent of our sins so that we can live.

We should also share the Gospel with unbelievers! Unbelievers are the sheep that are not of Jesus’ flock but if we share the Gospel with them then they will know the good news that Jesus died for them and they might come to Christ. We should give the Gospel out to unbelievers so that they can live, we should share the good news that Jesus died for our sins with them so that they can be saved from their sins.

Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to die for our sins! Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to atone for our sins on the cross. Thank You Jesus for taking all of our sins and all of God’s wrath on You and then dying on the cross. Thank You Jesus for making us a part of You flock. Thank You Jesus for washing us white as snow. Thank You Jesus for saving us from the trap of sins that we had gotten ourselves into. Thank You Jesus, for dying for our sins on the cross.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
