If the Son Sets You Free…

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 8:34-36 which says,

34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Jesus is still talking to some of the Jews who believed in Him, Jesus told them that if they truly believed in Him, they would be set free. Then the Jews said that they had never been captive, so how could they be set free from anything? Jesus told them that all who had sinned were slaves to sin. In the verses above Jesus says that anyone who sins is a salve to sin and that a slave has no permanent place in the family, but then He says that if the Son sets you free then you will be free indeed. Jesus is the son!

Jesus was saying that if anyone who was a slave to sin trusted in Him, they would be freed from sin. All humans are slaves to sin and we were all going to die with God’s wrath and our sins on us, but Jesus came down from heaven and took our sins on Him along with God’s wrath and then He died for us. Jesus came down from heaven and died for our sins! He loved us so much that He died for our sins on the cross. Jesus makes us children of God by giving us the right to become a child of God on the cross.

12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (NIV John 1:12)

If we receive Jesus as our savior then we will be given the right to become children of God.

We should trust in Jesus and live, if we believe in Jesus then we will live. We should believe in Jesus and repent of our sins, if we do then we will be free from the power of sin. We should trust in Jesus and live. We will be set free from our sins by Jesus’ sacrifice if we trust in Him. We should believe in Jesus and live, we should trust in Him and have eternal life. If we believe in Jesus and repent of our sins then we will live, we will be set free from our sins. We were slaves to sin, slaves don’t have a permanent place in the family, but because of Jesus we are children who do have a place in the family and who have an inheritance.

We should trust in Jesus, if the son sets you free then you will be free indeed! We should believe in Jesus and we should give the Gospel to unbelievers. We should share the Gospel that if Jesus sets a sinner free, they are free indeed. We should give the Gospel to unbelievers so that they can live, so that they can trust in Jesus as their savior too.

Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to die for our sins. Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven and taking all of our sins and God’s wrath on You and then dying on the cross for us. Thank You Jesus for rising again on the third day and then ascending in to heaven to mediate on our behalf and to prepare a place for us. Thank You Jesus for setting us free indeed at the cross, thank You Jesus for loving us enough to die for our sins.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
