Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 5:13-14 which says,
” 13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. 14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”
Jesus had gone up to Jerusalem for a Jewish festival and as He was walking on a path and He saw an invalid on the side of the path. Jesus asked the man if he wanted to get well and the man said “sir, I have no one to help me into the pool while the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” The man wanted to get into the pool while the water was stirred because you would be healed if you did. Then Jesus said “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” Then the man was healed. The pharisees told the man that he wasn’t supposed to walk while holding his mat because it was the Sabbath. Then we have verses 13-14 where Jesus says that the man should stop sinning unless something worse happened to Him.
Jesus can also heal us, spiritually. You may be saying that you aren’t sick spiritually but if you haven’t accepted Jesus as your savior then you are sick spiritually. What are you sick with? Sin, everyone is born sinning and everyone is captive to sin as soon as they are born. But Jesus came down from heaven as our healer and the way that He healed us was by shedding His own blood. Jesus came down from heaven even though He was and is perfect and even though He was and is the son of God, and Jesus died for our sins so that we could live.
Jesus died for us so that we could live, He took our place and He died for our sins. We should trust in Jesus because He died for us, He is our great physician. If you think you need a doctor with a lot of experience for your “problem” then you can go to Jesus because He is our great physician. We should trust in Jesus even if your doctor says you need a psychotropic drugs then go to Jesus instead. We should trust in Jesus as our savior.
We should follow Jesus’ command and stop sinning. Of course no one is perfect and we all sin but because Jesus is in believers then we have Jesus’ help. If you have accepted Christ as your savior and repented of your sins then you are free from your sins because of Christ, and we shouldn’t take that as a license to sin. Paul says that we are dead to our sins and alive in Christ (Romans 5:20-21 & Romans 6:1-3). We should be dead to our sins and alive in Christ, we should trust in Him as our savior.
Thank You Jesus for being our savior, thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to atone for our sins. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to come down from heaven and die for us. Thank You Jesus for rising again on the third day and then ascending into heaven to prepare a place for us and to mediate on our behalf. Thank You Jesus for healing us of our sins just like the invalid was healed. Thank You Jesus for being our great physician and for living in us and helping us. Thank You Jesus for all that You have done for us.
Are you trusting in Jesus?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
