Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 4:35-36 which says,
“Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.”
In this passage Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman when the disciples came to Jesus. Then the Samaritan woman left her jar behind and went back to the town, when she got there she called out to the people telling them about Jesus. Meanwhile the disciples urged Jesus to eat something but Jesus said “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” The disciples asked each other if someone could have brought Him food, Jesus said “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.” Then we come to verse 35 and on. But what does Jesus mean in verses 35 and 36 when He says that the fields are ripe and that who ever reaps the harvest will get a crop of eternal life?
We were sinners who had God’s wrath on us and we were going to die with God’s wrath on us. How does that have anything to do with reaping eternal life? Well Jesus is the one who gives us eternal life and the way that He “sowed” eternal life was by dying on the cross for our sins. Jesus came down from heaven because He loved us and He died for our sins so that we could live. Jesus came down from heaven even though He was (and is) perfect and even though He was and is the son of God (and God Himself), He died for our sins on a cross.
Jesus came down from heaven because He loved us, and He died for our sins because He loved us. After Jesus died on the cross He rose again on the third day and then ascended into heaven to mediate on our behalf and to prepare a place for us in heaven. If we trust in Jesus then we will have eternal life, we will be saved from our sins if we trust in Christ and repent of our sins. If we do repent of our sins and trust in Christ then Christ is in us and we are saved from our sins and from God’s wrath. We should trust in Jesus as our savior.
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. ” (NIV Mathew 25:46)
We were not righteous but Jesus came down from heaven and made us righteous by dying on the cross for our sins. Now we will have eternal life because Jesus came down from heaven and died as a sacrifice in our place on the cross. We should trust in Jesus and repent of our sins so that we can be free from our sins and have eternal life.
We should trust in Christ and we should also help others reap eternal life by giving them the Gospel. We should also be like the Samaritan woman, we should leave everything that we had (worldly things that the devil tries to entice us with) and go tell everyone about Jesus. We should leave everything behind to share the Gospel with unbelievers, we should tell them about Christ so that they can have eternal life. We should help unbelievers accept Christ as their savior so that they can live. We should give them the Gospel.
Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven as a sacrifice for our sins. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to die for us. Thank You Jesus for rising again on the third day and for ascending into heaven to prepare a place for us and to mediate on our behalf. Thank You Jesus that we can go and share the Gospel with others. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to be beaten beyond recognition and then to die on a criminals cross with all of our sins and all of God’s wrath on You. Thank You Jesus for everything that You have done for us.
Are you trusting in Jesus?
