Lifting the Snake

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 3:14-16 which says,

14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[a] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”[b16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

This passage is about Jesus teaching Nicodemus. Nicodemus came to Jesus under the cover of darkness and said “Rabbi we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with him.”  Then Jesus said that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again and then Nicodemus asked what Jesus meant. Then Jesus asks how Nicodemus could understand heavenly things if he couldn’t understand earthly things. Then Jesus talks about how, just as Moses lifted the snake up in the desert so the Son of Man would be lifted up and if anyone believed in Him they would be saved.

But from what? What would we be saved from if we believed in Christ? Sins! We will be saved from our sins if we accept Jesus as our savior, we were captive to sin and we couldn’t get ourselves out. But Jesus came down from heaven and died for our sins on a cross. Why did He die for our sins? Verse 16 tells us the answer, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The reason that Jesus came down from heaven was because He loved us, He loved us enough to sacrifice Himself for us.

Jesus came down from heaven because He loved us, and we should love others.  We should give them Christ’s love, we should love them like ourselves and we should help them when they need it. We should trust in Christ and we should share the Gospel with others, Jesus loved us enough to die for our sins and if we trust in Him we are saved and we should give them the Gospel so that they can be saved. We should let them hear the good news of the Gospel so that they can be saved from their sins.

Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to die for our sins, thank You Jesus that we can trust in You and be saved. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to give us eternal life if we trust in You. Thank You Jesus for letting us not perish but have eternal lift, thank You for letting us believe in You and have eternal life. Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven and dying for our sins, thank You Jesus for rising again on the third day and then ascending into heaven to prepare a place for us and to mediate on our behalf. Thank You Jesus.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
