Something Good Out of Nazareth

Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 1:45-46 which says,

“Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.“Come and see,” said Philip.”

John saw Jesus coming toward him again and he said “Look, the lamb of God!” then the two disciples that had been with John followed Jesus. Jesus asked them what they wanted, they asked Him where He was staying and He showed them. Then Andrew (one of the disciples) told his brother Simon about it and then Andrew took Simon to Jesus where Jesus gives Simon the name Cephas (or Peter). Then Jesus finds Phillip after deciding to leave for Galilee, and then we come to the verses above. Philip tells Nathaniel about Jesus who came out of Nazareth, but you might notice that Nathaniel is unsure, he doesn’t think that anything good can come from Nazareth. So Philip says “come and see” and shows Nathaniel Jesus.

The answer to Nathaniel’s question “can anything good come from Nazareth”  is yes, something good did come from Nazareth. Jesus came from Nazareth, but what is so great about Jesus? Well we were buried in our sins and we couldn’t get out, no lamb or goat or bull could be a good enough sacrifice to free us from our sins, we were doomed. But Jesus came down from heaven because He loved (and loves) us and He died so that we could be free from our sins. Jesus was and is the son of God and He was and is perfect, and He died for our sins on a criminals cross! Jesus loved us enough to die for us, that is the good that came out of Nazareth.

Jesus died for our sins and we should trust in Him as our savior, we should believe that He is the son of God and that He died for our sins. We should believe that something good did come out of Nazareth, Jesus who brought us freedom. Jesus died for our sins, thank You Jesus. If you haven’t trusted your life to Christ then why don’t you, if you are like Nathaniel and don’t think that anything good can com out of Nazareth then why don’t you “come and see”? Don’t be like Nathaniel was when he didn’t believe, but do be like Nathaniel when He believed that Jesus was the son of God.

We should trust in Jesus and we should be like Philip. Philip didn’t give up when Nathaniel asked if anything good could come out of Nazareth, he didn’t need think and see if Nathaniel was right he just said “come and see”. Philip knew that if he couldn’t persuade Nathaniel then Jesus could. We should be like Philip, we should share the good news of the Gospel with unbelievers, we should let them see Jesus and we should give them the key of the Gospel to unlock scriptures.

Praise God that Jesus came down from heaven to die for our sins. Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to sacrifice Yourself for us. Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to be our savior and to make us clean. Thank You Jesus for making us son and daughters of God. Thank You Jesus for letting us trust in You. Thank You for giving us Your scriptures, thank You for dying for us and then on the third day rising again. Thank You Jesus for ascending into heaven to prepare a place for us and to mediate on our behalf. Thank You Jesus for all that You have done for us.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
