Hi, God’s word for me today is in John 1:29 which says,
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’
Some Pharisees had come to John and asked him who he was, he replied that he wasn’t the Messiah so they asked him if he was Elijah and again he denied it then they asked him if he was the Prophet but he said no. Then they asked him who he was and he said that he was the voice calling in the wilderness, so they asked him why he baptized. John told them that he baptized with water but that there was one that would come after him that the straps of Him John was unworthy to untie. In these verses we see that the next day John saw Jesus coming toward him (John) and that John says Jesus is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
But why does John say that Jesus came before him, because in verse 27 he says that Jesus was the one who would come after him. But here is the reason, Jesus was before John. Long before him, Jesus was before time began. Jesus is God (and the son of God) but this begs the question why, why would Jesus come down from heaven? The reason is in what John says in verse 29, John says that Jesus is the lamb of God that came to take away the sin of the world. That is why Jesus came down from heaven, to die for our sins on the cross!
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV John 3:16)
Jesus loved us so much that He came down from heaven to die for our sins on the cross, He actually came down to sacrifice Himself for us. Jesus died for our sins because He loved us, He took away our sins. He is the lamb that took away our sins. The Israelites used to sacrifice offerings for their sins, and Jesus was the final sacrifice. He was (and is) the lamb of God that took away all of our sins!
We should trust in Jesus, we should believe in Him. If we believe in Jesus we will live, our sins will be taken away by Jesus, Jesus will have paid for our sins. Jesus died for our sins and we should trust in Him so that we can live, Jesus gave up His life for us and we should trust in Him. Jesus took our sins on Him and He died for us, then He was buried and our sins were buried but on the third day Jesus rose from the grave and our sins didn’t. Jesus is our savior, we should believe and trust in Him.
We should trust in Jesus and we should spread the Gospel to unbelievers. We should help them trust in Jesus, He is our savior. He is the lamb of God that took away our sins. Just like the lamb that the Israelites sacrificed and put on the rim of their doors when the angel of death passed through. Jesus died for us and we should spread the Gospel. We should also lift up Jesus name, John was humble when he denied being the Messiah and John was even more humble when he said that he was not worthy enough to (in essence) untie Jesus’ shoes.
Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to die for our sins, thank You for letting us trust in You. Thank You for being the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the whole world! Thank You for loving us enough to come down from heaven and be our sacrifice, thank You for helping us and giving us the Bible. Thank You for giving us a mouth to praise You with, thank You for all that You have done for us.
Are you trusting in Jesus?
