Hi, God’s word for me today is in 2 Peter 3:9,
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Peter is saying that the Lord is not slow in keeping His promises, as some understand slowness but He is patient with us. Some may think that the Lord was slow to keep His promise with Abraham (that Abraham would have a son) but really God was being patient with Him. Even though it may seem that God is slow He is really patient, He is waiting for the perfect time to fulfill His promise.
It may have seemed like a long time before God fulfilled His promise of fulfilling a savior that He made in the beginning (Genesis 3:15). But God did fulfill it, He fulfilled it when Jesus came down from heaven to die for our sins! Who is Jesus? Jesus is the son of God (and God Himself) and He came down from heaven to die for our sins so that we could live. Jesus was (and is) perfect and He atoned for us perfectly, He saved us from our sins so that we can be free from the power of sin and death. He died so that we can be free from the devil and so that we can be servants of Christ.
Jesus came down from heaven because He loved us, because He didn’t want anyone to perish and because He wants all of us to come to repentance. We should repent of our sins and accept Jesus as our savior so that we can live. We should trust in Him because He died for us, we should repent of our sins and trust in our savior. When we were in our sins we were going to perish but Jesus came and died for our sins and now we should repent and believe in Jesus.
We should trust in Christ. We should share the Gospel with others so that they can trust in Jesus and we should live holy and godly lives as Peter says. Jesus lives in us and He is making us more and more like us, and we can live holy and godly lives because of Him. Of course everyone sins but we are being made more into the likeness of Christ. We should also continue to pray and ask for forgiveness of our sins, but we shouldn’t take that as a license to sin. If we did then we wouldn’t be living holy and godly lives.
Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to die for our sins. Thank You for giving us Your promises and thank You for never being slow to fulfill them. Thank You for promising us eternal life, thank You for dying for our sins so that we could live. Thank You for loving us enough to die for us so that we wouldn’t perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
Are you trusting in Jesus?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV John 3:16)
