Hi, God’s word for me today is in 1 Peter 5:5-7 which says,
“In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”[a 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Humble yourself, I think that is what Peter means when he says that God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. Peter says that we should all clothe ourselves with humility because that is what God wants. The doctrine is that if we humble ourselves then God will lift us up and if we lift ourselves up then God will bring us down.
In other words we should be like Jesus. Who is Jesus? Well Jesus is the son of God and He humbled Himself enough to die for our sins so that we could live. We were dead in our sins, and we had God’s wrath on us because of our sins. But Jesus came down from heaven because He loved us, and He died for us. He humbled Himself not only to become a man but to die a criminals death on a cross. He humbled Himself to become man when He was born of a virgin and the He humbled Himself enough to die for our sins. Now we are saved because of Jesus.
We should accept Jesus as our savior and be saved. If you are not a believer then you still have your guilt and your shame and God’s wrath on you, but if you have accepted Jesus as your savior then you are free from guilt and shame and you don’t have God’s wrath on you. In fact you are covered by His blood and are clean in God’s eyes if you have accepted Jesus as your savior. If you haven’t humbled yourself enough to acknowledge and to repent of your sins then why don’t you do it now? Dear Jesus, thank Your for coming down from heaven to die for me, please help me humble myself enough to accept You as my savior. Please come into my heart and make me clean, I’m sorry for all the sin that I have done, please help me to become more like You. In Jesus name, amen.
Please don’t think that I’m trying to make myself all this and all that. Because I’m not, none of us are but Peter still says that we should try to be. Of course we can’t just keep trying and trying to see if it works, we should pray to the Lord and ask Him to help us. He died for us (and He rose again for us then ascended to the father to mediate on our behalf and to prepare a place for us) and He can help us. In fact Peter says that we are to give our anxieties to Jesus because He cares for us. We should humble ourselves and we should cast our anxiety on Him. I find it interesting that we should “cast” our anxieties on Jesus, we shouldn’t just give them to Jesus or toss them to Jesus, we should cast them to Him, completely get rid of them with His help.
Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to die for our sins. Thank You Jesus for humbling Yourself for us, thank You for letting us cast our anxieties on You. Thank You Jesus for helping us, thank You so much for dying for our sins. Thank You Jesus for rising from the grave on the third day, thank You for ascending into heaven to prepare a place for us and to mediate on our behalf.
Are you trusting in Jesus?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
