Hi, God’s word for me today is in 1 Peter 1:18-19 which says,
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
In these verses Peter is talking about how we were not redeemed with silver or gold but by the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. Why does Peter call Jesus a lamb without blemish or defect? Read John 1:29,
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (NIV John 1:29)
John calls Jesus the lamb of God and that is what Jesus was (and is), John also says that He takes away the sin of the world. The only way that He could do that would be if He was perfect and Jesus was (and is) perfect. Peter is saying that when He says that Jesus is the lamb of God without a blemish.
Jesus died for our sins on the cross so that we could live. Peter says that we were redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus and John says that Jesus is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. Jesus is the lamb of God whose blood took away our sins, just like the Passover lamb that was sacrificed at every Israelites home. Jesus is exactly like the Passover lamb because He atoned for our sins.
We should trust in Jesus as our Passover lamb, we should believe in Him as our savior so that we can be saved by Him. He is our savior, a lamb without blemish or defect that died for our sins. He redeemed us from our sins, we couldn’t have been redeemed by money which sprouts wings and flies away.
“Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings
and fly off to the sky like an eagle.” (NIV Proverbs 23:5)
Jesus redeemed us by dying for us, thank You so much Jesus. He shed His blood so that we could live, He actually came down from heaven to die for our sins so that we could live. We should praise Jesus for all He has done for us.
We should praise Him and we should read our Bibles and pray. If we do that then we can hear (and read) God’s word and we can talk to Him. We should share the Gospel with others. If we don’t then they may never hear the Gospel again, even if you think that someone else might come and tell them the Gospel, you should still give them the Gospel. So we should praise Jesus because of what He has done for us, we should read our Bibles and pray to Jesus so that we can have contact with Jesus, and we should share the Gospel with unbelievers so that they can become Christians (if God has led them to).
Thank You Jesus for coming down from heaven to die for our sins. Thank You for redeeming us by your precious blood, thank You for letting us trust in You. Thank You for redeeming us from the empty way of life that was “handed down to us by our ancestors” thank You for letting us pray to You and for giving us your word. Thank You for everything that You have done for us. Please help us to always trust in You.
Are you trusting in Jesus?
Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
