A new birth and a living hope

Hi, yesterday I finished reading in Joel and decided that I should start in the new testament and God’s word for me today is in 1 Peter 1:3-5 which says,

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Here Peter is talking about how, in His mercy, God has given new birth and a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus. Peter is giving those Christians encouragement even in times of trouble, Peter is encouraging them in the Gospel. Peter is telling them of the Gospel and the inheritance that they had.

Peter is talking about how Christians have a new birth and a living hope, that is what we have in Christ if we are Christians. The Gospel gives us a new birth and a living hope. Jesus died for our sins with God’s wrath on Him so that we could live, we are born again in Christ if we accept Jesus as our savior and we have a living hope because no matter what Christ is with us, and it does not matter if we die for Christ because we will go to heaven and be with Christ. We should accept Jesus as our savior, the world has no hope in times of trouble and distress, but Christians have a living hope who is Christ.

Jesus came down from heaven to give us a new birth and a living hope, we should accept Him as our savior so that we can have a living hope and so that we can be born again. When we accept Jesus as our savior we get new birth and a living hope, but we also get an inheritance that never fades. We receive an inheritance that, as Peter puts it, can never perish spoil or fade. We should accept Jesus as our savior and be saved by Him. Through the Resurrection of Christ from the dead on the third day we have a living hope (Christ is alive not dead, we have a living hope) that He is alive and we have a new birth.

One of the things that we should do as Christians (like Peter was doing in this verse) is encourage others in the Gospel, especially when they are struggling or in a hard time. We should encourage other believers and we should be encouraged ourselves, we should read the Bible and be encouraged in the Gospel. We should read our Bibles and pray so that we can talk to the Lord and so that we can listen to and read His word.

Praise be to the Lord for giving us a new birth and a living hope. Praise be to Jesus for coming down from heaven to die for our sins. Peter starts the beginning verse by praising the Lord, and then right after that He talks about the Lord’s great mercy on us. Thank You Jesus for having mercy on us.

Are You trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
