Calling on the name of the Lord

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Joel 2:32 which says,

32 And everyone who calls
on the name of the LORD will be saved;
for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
there will be deliverance,
as the LORD has said,
even among the survivors
whom the LORD calls.[a]

Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, that was what the Lord was telling the Israelites. The day of the Lord was coming and the Lord was saying that if anyone called on His name then they would be saved from death. When the Israelites called on the name of the Lord they would be saved, the Lord would deliver them. He says that on Mount Zion and Jerusalem there would be deliverance, if they called on the name of the Lord then they would be saved.

That is a clear picture of the Gospel! We were going to die in our sins but Jesus the son of God (and God Himself) came down from heaven to die for our sins on the cross so that we wouldn’t have to. He came down from heaven and took God’s wrath and our sins on Him. Thank You so much Jesus for coming down from heaven as our atoning sacrifice.

The Israelites had to call on the name of the Lord to be saved, and we also have to call on the name of the Lord and be saved from our sins. If we call on the name of the Lord and repent of our sins then we will be saved from them. You may have noticed that the Israelites didn’t have to do anything, like be perfect or offer ten sacrifices or anything like that to be saved and neither do we. We just have to call out to the Lord and repent of our sins and we are saved from them, don’t you think that the one true God is much more kind to us than any man-made god? Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins on the cross!

Christians should do something though. Yes I did say that we didn’t have to do anything, but I said that we didn’t have to do anything to be  saved, but we should do something for Christ. We should just sit around and live in our sins, we should strive to be like Christ. Yes we do have flesh but Christ lives in us and He is making us more like Him. We should also share the Gospel with unbelievers so that they can know the good news. We should read our Bibles and pray to God so that we can listen to Him and talk to Him. We should also go to a Gospel church so that we can listen to the Gospel. Thank You Jesus!

Thank You Jesus for loving us enough to come down from heaven and die for our sins. Thank You Jesus for  letting us call on You to be saved. Thank You Jesus for making us more like You and for living in us. Please help us to call on You and be saved if we aren’t already, please help us to trust in You. Thank You Jesus for everything that You have done for us.

Are you trusting in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
