Dry bones

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 37:5-6 which says,

“This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”

In these verses the Lord is telling Ezekiel to prophecy to dry bones. The Lord is actually telling Ezekiel to talk to bones that are lying on the floor so that they will come to life, any person right now would have said “Lord I don’t think this is going to work” or something like that. But Ezekiel had trust in the Lord, and just like the Lord said the dry bones became flesh and then the Lord spoke life into those dry bones and they became alive and a vast army. The Lord made dry bones alive.

Before you discard what I just said about dry bones coming alive you should realize that this is the Lord and He can do miracles. In fact the Lord didn’t just make those dry bones come alive, He made our (spiritual) dry bones come alive. We were dry bones because of our sins, and of course dry bones can’t make themselves alive. But the Lord spoke life into us by sending us a sacrifice that would die in our place on the cross.

That sacrifice was Jesus, Jesus came down from heaven and gave us His righteousness in exchange for our sins and He gave us life so that instead of dry bones we are now living. Jesus did that by coming down from heaven and dying on a cross for us.

“God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (NIV 2 Corinthians 5:21))

Jesus died for us so that we could have life and not be dry bones, but why would God come down from heaven live a perfect life be beaten beyond recognition and then die for sinners on a cross?

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (NIV 1 John 3:16)

Jesus loved us so much that He raise us from a heap of dry bones to alive people who love the Lord. Now we should trust in Jesus as our savior and we should praise Him. Also we should want to share the Gospel with others. Thank you Jesus for making us alive and new in you.

Are you trusting in Jesus and how He loved you enough to die for you?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
