Guilty because of bloodshed

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 22:3-4 which says,

“‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: You city that brings on herself doom by shedding blood in her midst and defiles herself by making idols, 4 you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed and have become defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.”

These verses are talking about how Israel was doomed and the reason for that was because they had shed blood. They were guilty because of how they had shed blood. They sinned and because God can’t look on sin He was going to punish them for that, but they weren’t even worshiping God (another sin of theirs) they were worshiping idols. Of course after God would “make them an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries”, I think that they would start worshiping God. Anyway the Lord was going to send the Babylonians to wipe out the Israelites, then God would have mercy on them and after a hundred years or so they would be set free, but the reason that it all happened was sin.

The Israelites were doomed and guilty because of sin and so were we. The Israelites were going to die because of sin and so were we. The Lord couldn’t look on sin with the Israelites and He sent the Babylonians to take them captive, same with us we were sinners but instead of “Babylonians” taking us captive it was our sin that took us captive. We were guilty of bloodshed, in fact we were guilty of the bloodshed of the one that would save our lives. You see we weren’t perfect and we were going to die because of it, but if there was a perfect sacrifice that could atone for our sins, we would live. But of course there wasn’t a perfect sacrifice on earth, and that is why God had mercy on us.

God sent Jesus in our place. But who is Jesus, and how is He perfect? Jesus was (and is) perfect because He came down from heaven to atone for our sins. Also Jesus was (and is) God (and the son of God). Jesus actually came down from heaven as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. But as always we ask the question why and we also ask the question how, how did He die for our sins? Well we know who Jesus is and the answer to the question how Jesus died for our sins is simple. He died for our sins on the cross, He died a criminals death even though He didn’t commit any crime Himself. He bore our sins though, and that is why God poured out His wrath against Jesus on the cross.

But now we answer the question why. Jesus died for our sins on the cross but why? The answer is found in the Bible,

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV John 3:16)

Jesus died for our sins because He loved us. Clearly we weren’t perfect enough for Him and 1 John 4:10 tells us that it wasn’t because we loved Jesus but because Jesus loved us. What response should we have to that though? Well the response we should have is worship, and not worship like a command but worship that comes from the heart. Jesus died for our sins and we should praise Him for that. Also we should share the Gospel with others, we should want to share the Gospel with others because of how amazing it is. Thank you Jesus.

Are you trusting in Jesus and sharing the Gospel with others?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
