Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 17:16 which says,
“‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, he shall die in Babylon, in the land of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised and whose treaty he broke.”
In this passage it is talking about how the king of Israel was captured by the king of Babylon and then made to live under an oath. Then the king of Babylon let the king of Israel back on the throne, but Israel went to Egypt and asked for help, but of course Egypt didn’t help and Israel had already broken the treaty. That is what it is talking about, and in this verse it is saying that the king of Israel is going to die in Babylon because he betrayed the king who put him back on the throne and he despised the oath and broke the treaty.
Just like us. All Israel had to do was completely obey the rules of a treaty he had made with a king and he would live. But because he went to someone who they had been captive to previously (the Lord had brought Israel up out of Egypt where they had been slaves) and broke the treaty, he was going to die, the verse even says that Israel despised the treaty that he had made with Babylon.
Like I said, it is just like us. You see God made is so that we all had to be perfect, and He did make us perfect until Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Adam and Eve sinned, and because they are everyone’s ancestors, we were all sinners too. Anyway we couldn’t live under the requirements of the law and we turned to sin (which we were captives to) but we were going to die because of it. Just like the Israelites, except that everyone in the whole world was going to die because of sin.
But why don’t we feel dead? Well because the Lord had mercy on us. We either had to obey the law perfectly from our birth to our death, or we could have a perfect sacrifice that would atone for us perfectly. That wasn’t going to work though because there wasn’t any perfect sacrifice on earth. But that is how the Lord intervened for us.
He sent Jesus down to be our perfect sacrifice! Jesus was and is the son of God (and God Himself) and He actually came down from heaven was born of a virgin and lived a perfect life, and it was all to die for our sins. Jesus was our perfect sacrifice, He was the one who atoned for our sins. He died for us even though He was perfect and we were completely sinful. But why would God die for our sins on the cross, what reason did He have to die for us?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV John 3:16)
Love. Jesus loved us enough to die for our sins, that is why He came down from heaven to die for us, and what should come out of our mouths more than the praise of God because of it? We should praise God for what He did for us on the cross. Thank you Jesus.
Is Jesus your savior?
