Dressed in costly garments

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 16:9-10 which says,

” “‘I bathed you with water and washed the blood from you and put ointments on you. 10 I clothed you with an embroidered dress and put sandals of fine leather on you. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with costly garments.”

In this passage the Lord was speaking of the Israelites like an adulterous woman, and in this verse He was saying that He nursed Israel from a “baby” and then dressed and clothed Israel. The Lord is saying that He helped Israel, He set Israel free from the Egyptians, He gave Israel food and water He did all of that. So the Lord provided for Israel, and it was out of His mercy because the Israelites were not perfect.

Israel wasn’t perfect and neither were we. The Lord had shown Israel mercy, and the Lord also showed us mercy. The way that the Lord showed Israel mercy was by providing for “her” and clothing “her” and all that. But the way that the Lord showed us mercy was a little bit different, He did that plus a lot more. He saved us from our sins. We were sinners that were going to die. We weren’t perfect and we didn’t have a perfect sacrifice, so we were doomed.

But that is why God supplied that sacrifice for us! Jesus was our sacrifice. Jesus came down from heaven, was born of a virgin and lived a perfect life. But the most important part was that He actually died for our sins on the cross. Then He rose from the grave on the third day. Jesus was (and is) perfect, so He perfectly atoned for our sins. The son of God (and God Himself) died for our sins. It was (and it still is) amazing that Jesus would do that, I mean why would He do that for us?

Jesus loved us so much that He died for our sins! He clothed us in His righteousness and washed away the dirty blood of sin. He also clothed us in His blood (which is clean and pure). He atoned for our sins on a cross, all because He loved (and still loves) us. We weren’t perfect enough for Jesus to die for us, if we were He wouldn’t have had to die. We can’t pay Him back for it and He knows that, all He wants from us is for us to worship Him and to spread the gospel to those who haven’t heard it. The gospel that Jesus died for us because He loved us and atoned for all of our sins and then rose from the grave on the third day.

The Lord had mercy on the Israelites and He saved them, and He had mercy on us, so much mercy we can’t imagine how much and He died for us. He did that all because He loved us, and we should worship Him and we should want to worship Him and share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.

Do you trust in Jesus?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
