Save yourselves

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 14:13-14 which say,

““Son of man, if a country sins against me by being unfaithful and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its food supply and send famine upon it and kill its people and their animals, 14 even if these three men—Noah, Daniel[a] and Job—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign LORD.”

Alright, in this verse the Lord is telling Ezekiel that if He (the Lord) sends famine on it that not even Noah, Daniel and Job were there they wouldn’t be able to save anybody but themselves by their righteousness. The Israelites were that country, they had sinned against the Lord and He was going to punish them for it so that they would turn back to Him. So the Israelites were going to be destroyed.

So were we. You see we sinned just like the Israelites had, and even if Noah, Daniel and Job were with us, they could only save themselves. We were going to be destroyed, the only way that we could be saved is if we were perfect (which we weren’t) or if we had some perfect sacrifice that would die in our place. But there wasn’t any perfect sacrifice, so it was just a matter of time before we were destroyed.

Well you may be asking the question “but I’m not dead or destroyed, so what happened” and what happened was Jesus. Jesus was our sacrifice. Even though I said that we couldn’t find a perfect sacrifice on earth Jesus was perfect. The reason was (and is) because He came down from heaven to die for us. Jesus was (and is) the son of God (and God Himself) and He came down from heaven all to atone for our sins. The Jews thought that He was going to take over the Romans (who were currently ruling over them) and be their king. But instead of coming down from heaven to be a king (which is what we would all expect) He came down from heaven as a king to die for us.

Now comes the question, why? Why would the king of all creation come down from heaven to die for sinners? Because He loved us. There are lots of verses in the Bible that prove it (1 John 4:10, 2 Corinthians 5:21 etc). Now we should rejoice that Jesus died for our sins! We should love Him so much that we can’t help it. The reason is that the God who created the whole entire universe (including heaven) came down and humbled Himself so much that He became mortal man (and at the same time God) and that after that He humbled Himself to death on a cross. Just to atone for our sins, and it was because He loved us, not because we were perfect.

Jesus was (and is) righteous and perfect, and He sacrificed it enough to die for our sins. But after He died for us He was buried, and on the third day He rose from the grave. Then He ascended into heaven and is preparing a place for us. So we should worship Jesus.

Are you trusting in Jesus as your sacrifice?

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland
