Escaping the sword

Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 6:8 which says,

“‘But I will spare some, for some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered among the lands and nations.”

Alright, God is sparing the lives of some of the Israelites. But why would He kill the Israelites in the first place? Well the reason is because they were going astray from the real God, they were turning to idols of different gods, and they were turning to altars of different gods. And that is why God is doing this, although He is leaving survivors and if you read a little bit farther in the passage it says that the survivors would loath over their sins. Which just means that they were going to realize their sins.

And that is the state of us and America as we know it. We have turned away from God and to money and other gods. And if we do not turn from our other gods and to the God, then something like this is probably going to happen. And it isn’t just America that we have to worry about, it is us. We were born sinful and we were all going to die, we were already dead spiritually and the spiritual comes first. We were going to die in our sins because we weren’t perfect and we didn’t have a perfect sacrifice, but that is why Jesus was that sacrifice.

Jesus was our sacrifice and He did more than just spare a few, He saved all of us. How did He save us? By dying on the cross for us! Jesus died for us on the cross as our atoning sacrifice. But why would Jesus do that?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV John 3:16)

The reason that Jesus died for us was because He loved (and loves) us. He didn’t die for us because we are so good, but because He loved us. He was our atoning sacrifice, and we should worship Him because of it.

God spared the lives of some of the Israelites. And the reason that He killed most of them was because of sin. And we were sinners to, but that is why Jesus died for our sins, that is why He was our atoning sacrifice. He died on the cross to save all of our lives, and we should worship Him because of it.

Are you trusting in Jesus as your atoning sacrifice.

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland.
