Hi, God’s word for me today is in Ezekiel 3:18 which says,
“When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for[a] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.”
Alright then, in this verse the Lord is telling Ezekiel to save a wicked persons life (and his own life) by telling them that they are doing evil things. Because the Lord would kill sinners, and even though He gave mercy and compassion to the Israelite nation, they were still sinners and the Lord still hated sin. And that is why the Lord is telling Ezekiel to save someones life by confronting them with their sins.
And that was our problem to. We were sinners and we were going to die unless we could become perfect or find a perfect sacrifice on earth (which was impossible). And that is why God had compassion on us and gave us a perfect sacrifice, in fact He (Jesus) was that sacrifice! Wait, God came down to atone for our sins? Why would He do that? Yes He came down from heaven to atone from our sins,
“He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (NIV 1 John 2:2)
And the reason He came down from heaven is stated clearly in John 3:16,
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
So the reason that Jesus came down from heaven as our atoning sacrifice is that He loved (and loves) us! He (the wonderful perfect holy God) died for us, sinful awful terrible wretches. That is Agape love. Agape love is heavenly love, it’s the kind of love that only God has, and it is for us. Jesus not only took our place on the cross but He gave us His place as sons and daughters of God. He of course is still God’s son (and God Himself) but He gave us the right to be sons and daughters of God,
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (NIV John 1:12)
The Lord told Ezekiel to tell a wicked man about his (the wicked man’s) sin, and that would save the man’s life and Ezekiel’s life. And that is a picture of Jesus because He saved our lives by dying for us on the cross. But instead of saving his life and saving our lives (like Ezekiel) He gave up His life to save ours by dying for us on the cross. And we should praise God because of it!
Are you trusting in Jesus as your savior?
